Successful demonstrations of the Silvanus pilot project in Sardinia and Apulia

The Silvanus project successfully showcased wildfire prevention and reforestation solutions through pilot demonstrations in Sardinia and Apulia, Italy.

The Silvanus project continues to make strides in wildfire prevention and reforestation with two successful pilot demonstrations in Italy. The first took place on September 26th in the scenic Gargano National Park in Apulia, where the Silvanus team, in collaboration with ASSET – the Strategic Regional Agency for Eco-sustainable Development – tested an advanced, fully integrated technological and information platform. The demonstration, supported by the Civil Protection Agency and ARIF Regione Puglia, focused on innovative solutions for wildfire detection and management. After the platform's test, participiants took part in a reforestation initiative, inspecteing and evaluating newly planted trees.

Simultaneously, on 27th September, another pilot was conducted in the stunning Tepilora Nature Park in Sardinia. Organised by the Parco Naturale Regionale di Tepilora, this event gathered key regional stakeholders, including the Regional Civil Protection, Corpo Forestale, FORESTAS Agency, and CEAS, to explore how the Silvanus platform can enhance regional efforts in wildfire prevention and response. The day satrted with a workshop presenting the project's impact on the region, followed by a live demonstration of wildfire control operations.

Fincons contributed to the implementation of the platform for fire detection and prevention that integrates and analyses various data sources, including IoT sensors, weather data and earth observation tools, leading to a climate resilient forest management solution.

These pilots demonstrate Silvanus’ commitment to developing climate-resilient forest management solutions across Europe by integrating technology, collaboration, and community involvement to address the growing threat of wildfires.
